The circus is deliberate

If you're still thinking about the crazy stuff Trump said in the debate, then his tactic worked.
1

Since the infamous Presidential debate last week, I have been thinking a lot about my interview with

back in July. Specifically because she addressed, head on, the misinformation tactics that the right wing has engaged in to dominate the political discourse. And this is, of course, to all of our detriment. Instead of speaking about what each candidate proposed they would do to make our lives better, the general discourse around the debate has centered around the false, and now dangerous, claims Donald Trump made concerning people eating pets.

Like so many people, I initially laughed at the absurdity of the comment. Now that I have had time to reflect, and also learned of the very real impacts the candidate’s words have on the people he maligned, my focus has shifted to the efficacy of the tactic itself. Longtime Trump advisor Steve Bannon has said his strategy is to “Flood the zone with shit” and “It’s not about persuasion, it’s about disorientation.”

Let’s all stop focusing on the circus, and focus on electing normal people so we can talk about policy again. Stop giving oxygen to the crazy and do something constructive.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. If you want to get involved this election but don’t know what to do, drop a comment and I will give you some ideas!
