Big Tech is Pushing Products That Harm Our Kids... So Let's Stop Them

I spoke with social media safety advocate Nicki Reisberg to figure out what we can do to protect our kids

I have been shocked time and time again when I see a headline that discusses the documented, known, harms that big tech companies are inflicting on our kids. Recently, I was outraged when Kentucky Public radio was able to access unredacted discovery documents in a TikTok litigation which revealed that “TikTok was aware of how harmful excessive use could be, especially to minors, pointing to things like disrupted sleep patterns and filters that the state says promotes specific beauty standards. In redacted portions of the lawsuit, the state cites an internal document that says the effect perpetuates “a narrow beauty norm” that could “negatively impact the wellbeing of our community.”

This is just ONE example that came to mind when I thought about all the times I learned of yet another whistleblower or disturbing finding, and thought “WHY ISN’T CONGRESS REGULATING THESE COMPANIES TO PROTECT OUR KIDS?!?!”
